My PC doesn't have a wireless card and I'm trying to connect my N900 to my PC with USB, and access an unencrypted wireless network.

The N900 is connected to the wireless network, and then using Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0.290 I try to use the "Connect to internet" feature. I choose "I want to define the connection settings manually" option, then the next screen wants the name of the access point, a user name, and a password. I have entered the name of the access point to no avail, I've also tried using "guest" as the user name and password. however this is an unsecured wireless network so I don't know what user name and password even mean in that context.

Thanks for reading.

I'm pretty sure that the N900 is not able to share a wifi connection. When you use Ovi Suite and choose "Connect to Internet" it's trying to share a cellular connection. Currently we are unable to use the N900 as an expensive wifi dongle.

@winlose it can be done. You need to setup a networking over USB cable such that PC can go to Internet via N900 by tethering. I am on the move now so I can't walk you thru right now. You may refer to the following link for some background:

Or you may use bluetooth PAN(http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=58570), provided that your PC has bluetooth.
