http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-1...s-by-2015.html.

After reading this first questions that came into my mind were, is it possible in 4 years? How much would it cost? How will it work etc etc.

Sure... they just need to put 2 regular cameras and an infrared camera to acquire the necessary visual data. Just like Kinect. The glassess-less 3D display already exists on some products, albeit in relatively low resolution.

2015 is a fairly safe estimate where those two techs converge into something pocketable.

It's in PR1.5. But only if we can get the bug "Holographic Display Non-functional" changed from "WORKSFORME"

Does Kinect work the same way as that 3d camera on that GOOGLE TechTalks video that can see thru smoke, blinds, tent walls, rain etc?

A lower cost implementation for 2011 could incorporate a kinect controller or two that scans your body as you leave your house. When someone calls your phone, that image pops up in 3d on their phone.

It's possible to do today with something like Junaio www.electrictv.com/?p=694

Projecting 3D without glasses?
On a phone?
2015?
NOPE

I do not see true holographic projection coming to phones in 2015. Probably possible for the next gimmicky home theater, but not the phones. IMO it would be more likely if the world had some sort of glasses as the phones, and a video is simply overlaid onto the lens. If the chip shrink is going the way it is right now, it might just happen. Mmm. Inductive charging, real-time image processing, gestures, large area LTE comms on a tiny chip. We can only wait D:
