I don't want to repeat something I already posted before, but I just
want to know if someone else has the same issue as me.

I have finally installed python 2.5 on my Nokia N800.

With the new firmware, everything works like a charge when I'm at an internet cafe HotSpot, which uses a Linksys G router, WEP disabled.

When I return home, I can not surf HTTPS websites, the Application Manager hangs when I try to refresh the folder.
At home I have a Linksys B router, WEP enabled.

So can someone test to see if they have the same problem on their WEP enabled routers, or is the issue due to being B router not being compatible, and G router working perfectly.

I don't want to buy a G router only to find out that its a WEP issue.

I use mine at home with a WRT54GL running DD WRT and it works fine. I've heard of a number of people having trouble due to their router not supporting the power save mode that Nokia in their wisdom has enabled in the latest release.

RobMtl007 - check out bug #1636 and apply the change detailed in comment #2, specifically the gconftool-2 command.

If it works for you, please add a comment in the bug with details of your router (make, model, firmware) and the lowest timeout setting that worked for you. Also give an update here so we know how you got on!

If bug #1636 doesn't also solve your HTTPS problem, be aware that SSL v2 is - for very good reasons - disabled by default in Opera as SSL v2 offers weak and exploitable encryption (ie. it's no longer considered safe to use). However some old or misconfigured websites may still be using SSL v2, in which case you have two options:

1) Stop visiting these insecure web sites - perhaps try contacting the admins and alert them that they are putting their users data at risk

or

2) Enable SSL v2 encryption in the Opera "Settings" dialog and tacitly accept the security risk of low grade exploitable encryption

I fiddeled with those PSM settings and can't see any difference with my Linksys router. I even tried a value of '100', browsing still works fine. Must be a router issue I suppose.

I will make tests again when I find a hotspot where I have difficulties to browse.

I have got to thankyou for letting me know about bug #1636.

This is the following solution they offer:
To fix the problem in 4.2007.26-8, run the following command in xterm (root
access not required):

gconftool-2 --set --type int '/system/osso/connectivity/IAP/wlan_sleep_timeout'
'1000'

I am not a linux program, so can you give me a step by step procedure as to
how I can get into Xterm.
When I have to type in this command will the keyboard on my n800 be available, or do I have to use an external keyboard.

Better install dropbear (ssh server) and login from your computer. Then issue the above command. (user root, password rootme)

If your connection is totally dead, you have to use the xterm approach mentioned above.

And note: this command is only one line, not two!

If you do install dropbear, then the first thing you should do is to change the root password from 'rootme' to something else.
At prompt (the #):

passwd

Then enter a new password, press enter, repeat. And remember.!

(If you leave the old well-known password then anyone surfing the same hotspot you're connected to can log in as root)

As for B vs. G routers: I'm connected through a D-Link wireless AP set to B mode, with WEP. No problems.

@RobMtl007: Install xterm from this page. Open the page in Opera on your N800 and click the green "Click to Install" arrow, open the file rather than save it and you should find yourself in Application Manager - follow the prompts to install xterm.

Once it has been installed, open xterm from the Extras menu.

You do not need to be the root user to run this command, so just paste the following as one line (select the text in Opera then paste into xterm using the virtual keyboard):

Press enter on the virtual keyboard to execute the command.

Press "up" on the d-pad to recall the command and try different timeout values.

Please update bug 1636 if this works, Nokia are attempting to close the bug as invalid.

Ok I tried opening Internet Tablet Talk.com, no go for that.
Ok I tried opening the page on the Maemo download for Xterm, again my N800
NayNay.

I will go to my internet Cafe, where the Linksys G router works.

When I return if the new command works.
Then I will update bug 1636
I think its going to work.
