Brand new, out of the box, from vodafone. Waited 2 weeks for them to send it. But now i'm realy happy Had an N95 8gb till now and i loved it, realy kept me from buying the N900 sooner. Anyway , being an ubuntu user this was the next logical step.. I owned symbian s60 phones since the 7650 but after N958gb it realy looked like it reached it's limits. The N900 on the other hand seams kind off limitless... Anyway, i'm off to mess around with it, just wanted you people to know the people are still buying these incredible devices.

Welcome to the forum

If the phone is brand new, be sure to update it to the latest firmware version PR1.3 and then check out the community software update (CSSU) thread and see if that takes your fancy.

Also, if ubuntu is your thing... You may want to check out easy-debian or may be go for a kubuntu duel boot option?

I love that dark screen protector. It's there for the fun of peeling it, yet there is no choice of leaving it on for the first days.

I too came from a N95 8gb and when I opened the box two things surprised me positively about the device (you see I didn't do very much research about it, even though my dad had just gotten a -- really impressive -- 3,7 amoled 16:9 omnia hd I had fallen in love with the N900 without even actually seeing it), anyway the two things that impressed me were the screen resolution -awesome- and the stylus (due to the craze of capacitiveness I never expected a stylus to be there)

Later on, under the bright Greek sun which makes all non OLED displays (and again some OLED ones) impossible to view I was impressed by the transflective screen. (ok, not so stunned the N95 has it too)

Ah, and I forgot. The notification light. Perfect. Just perfect. Just a look and you know what's in store. And easy-debian all desktop programs in your palm.

And pressure sensitivity. Did you know? The screen is pressure sensitive. Unimaginable, they made a pressure sensitive screen and there is nowhere to be found in any spec. But it is there and we've got myPaint to play with it.

Did I mention unison? All my documents sync'ed securely over the air with my windows box, ubuntu box and ubuntu laptop.

And I wanted to play music through the speakers with the headphones on. Just a little search on the internet and some tampering with alsamixer and there it is.

I don't need to mention the ability to ssh to the phone to use my desktop keyboard or ssh from the phone in the tube to manage my webserver.

Or that I can manipulate the phone with the desktops mouse and keyboard with synergy, and have it as a secondary screen to send and receive messages.

ok, but I don't want to spoil all the fun. You 're going to find your own wow moments with this device and we'll be checking this thread for your experiences.

Have a good time!

Well after a few hours i got : a full charge, updated to pr1.3, opera mobile 11, tux racer , looking for a player (probably vlc). I will probably go the u-boot route ,with either easydebian or meego but for now i'm checking out what maemo can do. Kubuntu is intresting too but not sure how small screen friendly it is. Allso want to find a microUSB cable that doesn't have those little clips, it seams to pop in and out quite hard and after reading about how sensible the port is i'd feel more confortable if it whould slide easily. On another note i realy like that maemo is so open and supported by a great community, not by appstores Even if Nokia kills it in favour of intel/wm devices i'm sure it will keep evolving just as linux evolved during the years with minimal corporate support. The future doesn't have room for greed, but it has for open-source Sorry for the long post, going to download some more stuff..

you don't have to look for a different cable. you can file down those little "teeth". that's what i did with my cable and charger after i read about all the warnings. have fun!
