got a tx today from o2 saying ive used my 500mb allowance for the month and im only half way though the month.

so im going to get charged for any extra i use.

trouble is i only visit a few web sites etc nothing else. i dont even download anything.

is there a way to find out what my phone is up to?

i have noticed a few issues over the past few days. im running dual battery and its always seems to be warm and running out in under 24 hours. normally id get two days from it. so im guessing something is running and eating my internet

any help welcome

thanks

Use a desktop data monitor?

Use "top" in a terminal to investigate?

The Facebook application, if you use it, downloads picture thumbnails for your news feed, which can add up to a small amount.
Also the email application auto downloads message headers, and the full body if set, so that can ready add up. In your mail settings try setting a limit on the amount it auto downloads.

There is an Option in the Settings under Phone. Scroll down to see the "Home network data monitor".

You could also install 'netstory' or 'qnetman'

On the terminal 'vnstat' for logging, and 'iftop' 'iptraf' 'netstat' for investigation comes to mind.

I assume by dual battery it means you're using an N900, though you never specificed which phone you're using.

I would disable the automatic update checks, disable automatic email checks, install conky and it shows active network connections and up/down bandwidth activity. Disable automatic connection to gprs. Install autodisconnect to cut it off in case you forget and leave it connected. Don't use IM or VoIP. These are the things I can think of to minimize cellular network usage.

Track your data usage with Netstat.
