Hi Can someone help with the following

1 What format of music can i play on my N770

2 ditto Video

3 How do i install applications I have downloaded , for instance, gpe-clock-0.25.tar.gz when i double click on it the message comes up 'unknown file type'

do i need some master piece of software very confusing at my wits end

4 Also my N770 links great with my phone can view pictures on my memory card over bluetooth on the N770 but when i try to connect on my ISP dial up from the N770 to my Sony ericsson phone it starts dialling then stops with the message

network connection error - am i doing something wrong

I like the N770 but never had this trouble with windows based pda's !

If you choose to download and install (as opposed to directly selecting installable apps from the application manager), then don't download .tar.gz files - that's most likely sourcefiles or some such, and not what you want. Look for the .deb files. (or rather, *.armel.deb). These can be installed by the application manager, or, if downloaded with the opera browser it'll recognize those as well (possibly even the file manager will).

Wait! don't download a file to install - there's an easier way!

read the wiki on how to install apps - the last "how to" on this website's wiki - not maemo's wiki. Click wiki way up there on top of this page.

Also, you have to search these forums and there are great posts on how to convert videos or do anything else. Search for things like "media converter", convert video, install, formap, mp3, etc..

Some avi files will run, and some you have to convert to the right size. Read maemoes wiki:

There is a lot to learn, but it gets easier. there are no easy guides for a lot of the basics, but you can find it in Newbies forum.
