I just got a Bluetooth GPS receiver (GPS 737) and have been fooling around with Maemo Mapper, which is awesome in general (thanks gnuite).

I have an N800 with the firmware update. I have the latest version of Maemo Mapper v. 1.4.6. I have my map repositories set to a 2GB flash card installed in the "removable" slot.

If I turn on "auto download" everything seems to work fine. Detailed maps get loaded as I scroll around.

However, whenever I try to download a non-trivial number of maps using "Manage Maps" Maemo Mapper winds up hanging. Usually it will download some number of the maps before hanging. I can't exit Maemo Mapper. Sometimes I will get a dialog saying "Maemo Mapper is not responding...", sometimes it just stops downloading and won't repaint the Maemo Mapper screen. Sometimes it locks the N800 completely.

It doesn't seem to be the metalayer-crawl CPU issue: top does not show any kind of CPU eater.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance...

I narrowed this down to SD cards. I had bought a pair of cheap Lexar 2GB cards and both of them would cause maemo-mapper to crash at pretty much the same spot when downloading maps. I tried a 256MB Kingston Elite Pro that I had lying around and didn't have any problem filling up the card with maps. I just picked up a Patriot 2GB "Extreme Performance Plus" card and it is performing fine as well.

So, it was a hardware problem. I don't know, however, whether the cards are defective (although I was able to fill them up by copying video files from my PC) or they weren't fast enough.

I'm having the same issue, but I tried all three of the cards I have (OCX, Patriot & Lexar) & have the same issue with all of them, so I don't think it's just a card issue. I couldn't find anything that I could see as relevant in the bugtracker. Anyone else having any problems? tx
