Is there any change in hell what somebody can get VMWare working on the N8x0?

Even is only the player version, or are there any major issues stopping this from working? { screen size, CPU power, etc }

I don't believe there's a chance anywhere that VMware Workstation (or any other VMware product) would be ported to the Internet Tablet.

It's an architecture thing: broadly VMware's all about sharing dynamic resources on an x86/x64 server (most of which are way over specified for what they are deployed to do) or providing dev and test environments on similarly engined workstations.

The Internet Tablet uses an ARM cpu - there's the first hurdle; never mind that the N8x0s aren't exactly over-endowed with CPU and memory resources for the primary objective of running a single instance of their OS.

Well, AFAIK there isn't an ARM binary for VMWare and it is a closed source application so you're pretty much SOL. If you wanted to learn ARM assembly and have vast chunks of time to kill, porting qemu would get you tons of kudos. It will almost certainly never be fast enough to be usable for much, though. Ah, it does appear that there is a version of bochs compiled up for Debian Armel (sid/unstable). Trying to get Bochs to compile with mud builder would probably be your best bet. On the Zaurus Cxx00 it apparently takes ~10 minutes for Windows 95 to start under Bochs. If you are interesting in pursuing this, hit up the OESF forums for some clues about how you can expect it to perform. Specifically, the following might be of interest:

Good luck and tell us how it goes!

The main problem with this would be cpu speed and an incompatible cpu architecture. If the task is to run a virtual x86 system, Bochs may be a more suitable program. Don't expect miracles. Bochs was discussed here: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ighlight=bochs

Running VMWare player seems like running flash player 9 for x86, which was discussed here: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ighlight=bochs
