New to CLAWS - I have it set up to use Gmail via IMAP on my N800. Everyrhing is great except I would like to be able to delete mail from my CLAWS inbox but retain it in my GMAIL inbox. Thunderbird has a setting for this. Is it possible in CLAWS?

I believe the solution is to change from IMAP to POP3 access.

I guess it would be a poor fix if you care about having my folder architecture in Claws, right? Since I don't are about that, POP3 works for me. But you probably want more, eh cjuzda?

Frankly I don't know too much about the differences bet POP and IMAP. I guess there's no harm trying POP. Thanks

Basically, with IMAP all messages are stored on a central server and remain there, so that when connecting with different clients message states, for example unread/new, are maintained. If you delete a message with one client, it will also be deleted on the another, beacuse the deletion takes place on the IMAP server.

With POP, messages are downloaded to the local machine and, ordinarily, removed form the server when this is done. On the other hand, you can use an option to not remove them from the server when retrieving them, but message states are not stored on the server, so when you download them with another client, they will not retain state.

If, in Claws Mail for your IMAP account, you wanted to delete the local copy to save space, then what you need to do is bring up the context menu of a folder and choose 'Properties...' in the menu, then go to the 'General' page and click the 'Discard folder cache' button - this will remove the locally cached copies of the messages. They will still be visible in the list of messages, but the bodies will no longer be cached locally. Next time you view a message the body will be refetched and stored in the local cache.

HTH
