I decided on the n800, but I just can't complete the order. I guess I'm hoping for a better deal. I already purchased the iGo BT keyboard for $30.

In my buy.com cart, I have the N800 for $230, 8GB Kingston SDHC (cls 6) for $80, and a 2GB Kingston SD for $17. Throw in the $10 off coupon and we're talking about $316.

But...
1) the n810 keeps calling me (size, screen, GPS, & keybaord)
2) I'm still hoping for a better price before or after Christmas
3) OS2008 doesn't seem quite ready

Sigh. Can anyone push me over the edge?

I'm sticking with my N800.. I don't need a bad GPS and I have big thumbs so the built-in keyboard is a waist. The N810 is only SLIGHTLY smaller - and OS2008 will be available soon in all it's glory for the N800.

Don't bother with the N810, it doesn't have the features to justify the price. The N800 isn't gonna get much cheaper, if anything, it'll probably go up. OS2008 is gonna be out of beta within a couple weeks, which will likely see some big improvements.

Now is the time to buy, and there's no better deal than the N800!

It's a tough call. The price on the n800 is almost too good to pass up. I can tell you as an n810 owner that the GPS ain't worth a hill o' beans at this point, and I think you'd actually be better off with an external Bluetooth GPS module than with the internal one in the n810. The other downside is the memory expansion on the n810 is both more limited and more expensive - having two SD slots rather than one miniSD slot makes a big difference; getting 16 gigs in an n800 will cost you about $120 if you shop carefully, but getting 16 gigs in an n810 is still impossible. And just 8 gigs total (2 on board, 6 on the card) will cost you $70.

But having a keyboard rather than soft keys is critical for me, and so far I'm pretty happy I made the purchase. The size/shape of the device is great, the screen is beautiful, and I'm hopeful that the GPS will turn out not to be a huge waste. I don't know how skype is on the n800, but it works so well on the n810 that it almost justifies itself. But ultimately the n810 is probably not going to see a price drop and the difference in value compared to the price is probably not big enough to justify the n810.

I was on the fence and I ended up getting the N810. Not having a N800 to compare to it's hard to say if I'm missing anything (except storage space) but I'm really happy with the N810. The GPS is clunky but not unusable (in my experience), it's a gorgeous device, and the keyboard is great. I have the feeling that once Canola 2 comes out I'll regret not having more storage but quite frankly I feel pretty good about my decision. It came down to buying a device to use on a daily basis that I was going to be kinda happy with but was cheaper or one that I was going to be really happy with but more expensive.

You won't regret it. Here's to the new FM radio applet with alarm function! OS2008 upgrade time..
(And some of us also figure we'll be able to replace our N800 screens with transflective screens in the not-too-far future, and then the N810 doesn't have any edge except the cramped keyboard.. and I've got my foldable stowaway in the other pocket anyway).

It's funny. I'm using a Psion 3a as my alarm clock. 2 AA batteries last for months.
