I remember seeing quite a lot of whining in the past that the 770 is Not Good enough when comparing to the N800 mainly because they cant do skype. Now Bundyo has hacked 3 days ago (12/4/7) and 770 is now skypable, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...t=12740&page=2, only 12 posts and 8 comments. What gives? Either it came too late, majority of 770 users already sold their 770s and move onto something else, or the 770 users are all whining babies ?! The reason I noticed it, cause my wife snatched my N800 on the ground that the 770 cant skype and forced a down grade from 2008beta back to 2007Os because of skype. Today, the 1st day, I took the N800 to work and back to my possession 'cause I can now leave her with the 770 which is now skypable. And likely, I will re-flash N800 back to 2008beta again, what a day.

bun, I agree with you. It is a big news for me. I only have the Nokia 770. Now I can do all things I want to do with 770 (Maemo Mapper, Mplayer, FBReader, Browsing and SKYPE). For me, there is no need to upgrade to N8xx now.

Maybe all of the options;-)

Much too much effort to get the 770 stable (WLAN drv mem leak patch), and from my current point of view, the 770 is too slow,
is underpowered, and doesn't have enough RAM (not sh*tty Flash).

The only thing I still like from the 770 is the slide-on protective cover.

Due to the above bug I was never able to use the 770 on a regular basis, so it's on sale now.

Maybe I'll buy an N810 when it gets somewhat cheaper,
or maybe the successor of the N810...

dchen, I am happy you are like me, enjoying the 770.

Ray, I have no intention to start another 770 vs N8xx flame. There are millions of in this forum. I just want to repeat one more time, I am happy that I can use it for maemo mapper, gnumeric, web surfer, pic album, video center. I humbly disagree the 770 is underpower with what it is doing. Now with Skype, I can even called my kids in Florida for free, they are college kids. The rest of the functions, open source, Debian are all bonus to me. Even more exciting, it is all happening in my pocket. Best of all, I learned how to tether my Treo650 with the 770 (thanks to this forum), and applied my new learned skill to tether with my Dell Axim50, and finally to my win PC. Now I am travelling with continuous online, the feeling is enormous. My point? Expectation. IMHO, you, or other users in your frame of thinking, are having too high of an expectation of the 770, and thus you are disappointed and, eventually, frustrated. Again, dont get me wrong, I have no intention to compare these tablets. I just want to express how happy I am with my 770.

I'd be happy to get my n800 to work with skype voice. Have had no luck with it at all, even on a fast wifi connection. My pocket PC with a slower processor works like a charm however. Very sad indeed

N800/2007Os skype is working fine with me. I think you mean the new 2008Os beta, right? The 2008Os beta has a bug that crashes Skype and is awaiting solution....

I think the main reason for not too much answers is that the provided procedure is not for everyone. Too complicated for the average user (since it involves becoming root too). Package will be much better, however not likely.

Nope, OS2007. Latest updates and all and I cant take or make a decent skype call on even the fastest wifi network. No idea why though as I seem to be the only one with the problem LOL.

Hey, I felt bad for you. Want to post the err messages and info and lets all get yours working? Cant guarantee but we will all take a look, all right? My Skype really really good. Quality is so so when wifi signal is weak. It works just like a real phone when wifi signal is strong. How real? I use it in REAL BUSINESS callx and not one complaint. This stands for both the N800/2007Os and 770/2007He.

I had it installed and worked on one try, N800/2007Os. Cant stand the tempation, like eve and the apple in Garden of Eve, upgraded to 2008Osbeta. Like the 2008Os beta but the Skype was NOT working, being yelled at by wife, rolled back to 2007.38-2, and then re-installed Skype, it works again on first try. I personally avoid re-store if I can. Bottomline, the Skype works, uninstall and re-install.
