can anyone tell me how i can get the faceplate off , i want to powdercoat it black... but cant for the life of me figure out how it comes off.

It's probably similar to the N800. Have a look at the faceplate painting post here:

no such luck... i dont see any kind of tabs like there are on the n800. only thing i see are two very small torx head screws on the back when the screen is slid up. but i cant see how those would be holding the thin metal faceplate on.
