How are people backing up important files on the tablets? I do use the native back up function, but I'm looking for something akin to Resco Backup in the Palm world. This can back on schedule or after specific events, or even backup over a network or FTP to a remote server for extra safety. Anything user friendly?

I use a cron job to schedule my backups. My backups are done using a somewhat messy shell script and Duplicity (through a Debian chroot), though a simple tar might suffice for your needs.

If you have an SSH server you can upload your backups to, I can probably walk you through the process of setting up scheduled backups.

I tend to not keep unique data on the device.
  • Misuc: I use a custom script, but there are a few applications that will export iTunes playlists to other devices.
  • Pictures: I pull down a copy of my Picasaweb pictures, it's not a full application yet, but the source is posted in the Developers section
  • Calendar: Google calendar. I've been working on making a proper one-way sync of the data using something like gcalcli
  • Notes: I've got a concept in my head to do sync with google docs, but I haven't started on it yet.

I guess I will just keep it simple for now, and not keep unique data on the IT. Thanks for the offer of script hand-holding but I'm looking for something easier/GUI for a tablet noob.

I see from posts on the duplicity mailing list, and http://wiki.maemo.org/Task:Maemo_roadmap/Harmattan, that Nokia are looking into making duplicity an official backup app for Maemo.

There's also rsync with its GUIs if you prefer. Search in this forum for instructions.

the apps are: https://garage.maemo.org/search/?typ...&Search=Search

As I run my N800 off the internal card, I just often plug it into the PC and make an image of it with PartImage on Ubuntu. I think someone here on the forums recommended it to me... I can't remember.
