I've been trying to get GPE synchronizing to my Outlook installation at work, using some reasonably painless method. So far, i've got Outlook syncing to Scheduleworld, and Scheduleworld syncing to Evolution on my Ubuntu desktop at home (as an aside, that worked much, much better than I expected for an out-of-the-box installation... Some tweaking necessary to perfect it, but I think it'll work great). Scheduleworld is a standardized SyncML server, and GPE uses an Evolution-like data store on the N-series. There's also info on the SyncEvolution installation page that suggests that SyncEvolution should work just fine on the N-series tablets.

So i'm down to getting SyncEvolution onto my N800 running OS2008. Unfortunately, when I go to the install link on the SyncEvolution page, the Application manager pops up and tells me that it's unable to install, that it's an incompatible application package. I suspect that it's just that syncevolution hasn't been released for OS2008 yet.

Has anyone tried SyncEvolution on OS2008? Did you compile from source, or did you find a pre-compiled install somewhere?

I haven't tried it yet, but the wiki has this linked

http://cleardefinition.com/page/Sync...d_GPE_on_N800/

Give it a try

Yes, i've seen Ryan Pavlik's page. He does something a little different, he syncs his Evolution installation to his N800. This works as long as you're (a) near your Linux box with Evolution, and (b) are sure that Evolution is up-to-date. It's fine for someone who only works with Evolution, but as I work with Outlook as well, I need something a bit more universal.

The only thing that should be necessary for sync is your N800 and an internet connection. Then you can sync to a single net-based data store that you treat as your "master". Sync Outlook to the 'net when you're at work, sync Evolution to the same spot on the 'net when you're at home, and finally sync your N800 to the same spot whenever you're near an access point.

I've seen mention of people using SyncEvolution on the N800 to do this because GPE apparently uses an Evolution Data Repository (EDR?) to store it's data. SyncEvolution installed so nicely and easily on my desktop, that I figured it would be almost as trivial if I could get a copy of SyncEvolution that worked on my N800.

And there appears to be one, but not for OS2008.

At least, not yet. Maybe someone who has more programming experience than I would try compiling it. I can't be the only one who wants an easy sync between Outlook and GPE.

Come to think of it, what do the Zaurus GPE users use? I'm sure the Linux-based Zauruses (Zauri?) came with Outlook sync software... Didn't they?
