I went to the support area at Nokia.com and told them that a number of users, including myself, cannot pair with an smt5600. I asked how this could be done. This is their reply:

Thank you for e-mailing the Nokia Care Contact Center.

We understand you are having trouble connecting your Nokia 770 Internet Tablet to another phone.

Jim, although Nokia does not support or guarantee the use of non-Nokia products with Nokia products, we can provide the Bluetooth specifications of your Nokia 770 Internet Tablet.

Your device is compliant with Bluetooth Specification 1.2 supporting the following profiles:

* Dial-Up Networking
* File Transfer/Object Exchange
* Generic Access
* SIM Access
* Serial Port

We suggest you contact the manufacturer of your phone to inquire about compatibility with the tablet based on the information provided above.

If you have any additional questions, please contact us. To ensure proper handling, please continue to use the current subject line.
Thank you for choosing Nokia for your mobile needs.

My i-mate sp5m has the same problem. They see each other but offer no services. This may be related:

As WinMo phones get more and more popular in the US, I think Nokia would need to fix this. Especially considering the current target market is "newest gadget owners"
