Does anybody have any recommendations for which VIOP SIP service whould be the best in the UK. I'm using an N800 with 2008 and the latest updates. I'd like a provider which would work with the intergrated tools within the OS rather than installing more apps such as skype or gizmo.

I'd like a free/cheap incoming number if possible. I've had a look about, and there are quite a few out there, but I'm not sure which one would be the best

Regards
Gaz

Hi,

I use 'Draytel' (www.draytel.org) for my SIP calls via a Vigor 2800VG router, and have also had it working OK with Gizmo on my 770. A clleague also has it working fine on his nokia Phone (N95 IIRC)

Reasonable call charges both for incoming and outgoing PSTN calls.

Cheers,

Alistair

sipgate.co.uk is one of many that ive used. my parents currently use the whilst in spain, they provide a free 0844 non-geographic lo-call type number, most providers give these free and charge for geographical numbers.
you only pay for outgoing calls to non voip numbers.
if you make a large number of calls esp. international ones there are providers who provide good deals for a monthly fee for inclusive or unlimited minutes.

It is US based but apparently has UK connections and I'm using it on my n810 - callcentric.com. A SIP only account is free so you can try the setup.

sipgate.co.uk also provide free incoming geographical area code numbers [i.e. national rates] - so now I can have an 01708 or 0208 number wherever there's an internet connection so friends and family can use their free mobile minutes to contact me.

I also signed up to Freecall - who give you free 1-minute calls to a number of different countries (landlines only) - UK included.

Me too, hard to fault. They give you a geographic number for free, no monthly service charge. Just open the account with £20.
