I know you can modify these files in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/hildon/:
qgn_indi_nokia_hands.jpg
qgn_indi_progressbar.png
qgn_indi_startup_nokia_logo.png
But to get the boot to be ascii, i have no clue ;-)

- check out what init (the father of all processes) does under /etc...
- btw, this is a good idea... i don't really care for splash screens either...
(OK, i wouldn't mind a pengie...)

I've asked about the text boot on #maemo more than once, and been shot down every time with a semi-explanation that didn't leave me feeling satisfied. Supposedly it's not possible, but I don't really know (Poky seems to manage it, if a bit roughly).

Basically, You need to compile a custom modified kernel *and also* to make sure nothing tries to print the progress bars out.
The kernel config line is something like CONFIG_OMAP_FB_MANUAL_UPDATE=y
or something similar. It has OMAP and MANUAL in it, so just use grep.

and you also need to enable framebuffer console driver (=additional otherwise unneeded bloat)

Actually I'm glad that the N810 _doesn't_ show all these console messages at startup.
These messages aren't really interesting as long as the unit starts up as expected.
And the unit starts up so quickly that you could barely read the messages flying by...
For debugging purposes a startup option to show these messages pagewise should be available, though.

not sure what the correct terminology is but I'm looking to ditch the standard boot screen with the blue progress bar and the cheesy hand-holding-hand splash screen with the horrible audio sample.
what i would prefer to see is what's actually happening during the boot process. i'd like to see some console output instead.
possible? please advise!
