Hi all,
Nokia ships a quick start and a PDF manual. Both aren't very good and certainly useless when it comes to software from unrelated third parties like open source software.

There's lots of good information in forums and on blogs. And there are two wikis, maemo and here. However, all forums, blog and wiki entries, no matter how good they are, will only give you pieces of information, which were probably valid by the time of writting. So N810/OS2008 users searching for help will find sophisticated instructions for getting something done on the 770/OS2005 although it's actually trivial now.

Lack of documentation usually results in repeated questions in forums, which annoys everyone.

We could try to make everything we know (as a community) available on the wiki, asking people to use the wiki before asking a uestion and update it after getting an answer.

Interested? What do you think?

Given the level of noise and "Well your should have searched" going on in these forums I'd say we NEED better community documentation.

No, Nokia shouldn't provide it. Should they perhaps provide better documentation? Of course. But they aren't going to document any of the third party applications that make the N8x0 series so much more then what it starts as in the box.

One issue of course at the moment is even FINDING "the wiki" and other documentation that is well done. I think some sort of new user landing page would make the most sense at the moment. The wiki itself is very useful, the forums are useful, but it can be hard to get a sense of how they work or where things are at first.

I think taking a page out of Ubuntu's book would be a good idea. https://help.ubuntu.com/ A very simple straight forward approach to the new user.\

As for myself, can't help much with documentation at the moment as I don't have any OS 2007 or OS 2008 device. And while some bits of software can be written using the SDK on a desktop... documentation shouldn't be.
