With the default file manager it seems I can't access anything other then what they give me, what other file managers allow me to dig deeper into the system?

And for GPE calendar, how do I get it so Sunday is the first day of the week and times are in 12 hour format and not 24 hour format?

try GPE Filemanager.

emelFM2 is a dual pane file manager with drag-and-drop, etc.
