I'm unable to add this rss feed:

I get : Unable to add feed. Address invalid.

I'm able to add others feeds just fine. I tried deleting all feeds and adding only this one but with no luck.

I have the latest version of os2008 and I'm pretty sure this feed was working in os2007.

Anyone knows what's the problem? Thanks!

Same for me with a different feed. My guess is that the validator is barfing on addresses that end in anything but .rss or .xml, which is stupid, because it's the mimetype that determines whether something is a real feed. (The feeds I was trying to add were of the form <http://blahblahblah/mime=xml>, and I see your example has a similar ending rather than the classic form for RSS.

Instead of just refusing, the RSS reader should probably have an option to say, "Yes, this really is the url of what I want to add." (The reader could try fetching from the url instead to see if things go wrong, but that way lies even more trouble.)

Well, here's a work around: Add the feed manually. I did this all on my 770, and I have no idea if it'll work on any other Nokia Internet Tablet.

I won't get into too many nitty gritty details, but I'll try to give enough for most people to have something to push off from. First, install osso-xterm and nano. Then make sure you have some working feed already in your feed reader, we'll use this as a template.

Open up the X Terminal, and you'll see you're at $. This is your user's home directory. Type "ls -a" to see all of the files and directories where you are. Type "cd .osso_rss_feed_reader" to change to that directory. Type "ls -a" again, and you'll see that there's a file called feedlist.opml. We want to edit that file. To do that, type "nano feedlist.opml".

This brings you into a simple text editor, with that file open. You can use the rocker arrow keys (the physical keys on your 770) and the on screen keyboard (click on the text somewhere) to make the edits you need. You'll also notice some common shortcuts printed on the bottom of the text editor. The file should have 1 or more lines in it starting with "<outline". You did make sure you already have a feed, right? Good. Go ahead and edit that line all up.

Change the outline text, title, and description fields however you want. Leave the type at rss. I'm not sure about the htmlUrl entry, I guess you can make it your feed site's home page or something. By the way, paste works here (through the on screen keyboard), which is awesome. Change the xmlUrl entry to that feed URL you have that the reader doesn't want to accept. Leave the updateInterval alone. Change the id entry a little to some other random text. I think it links the feed entry to its own folder in the feed reader's cache. lastPollTime and sortCollumn should also be left alone.

Now, make sure the feed reader is closed. Use XTerm's bar on the right to hit Ctrl+o, to save the file. OK, all done! Open your feed reader, and you'll see your new feed there. Now update, and see if it works. Mine didn't. I'm trying to get Google Reader's RSS feed, but I might need to tweak the address or something. But your's might work... hopefully.

Oh, and BTW, it seems that the 770 uses a Liferea port as its feed reader. I've used Liferea on a real computer, and its nice.

And, did anybody notice you have to be connected to the Internet to add a feed? Otherwise the box to add the feed just disappears.
