heres a neat idea. im about to go on a long road trip, so i will be using the n810/maemo mapper (with live internet access the whole way).

is there a way that someone can look at the n810 screen remotely?

this way, if someone at home (wife) wanted to see where i was, she can bring up my screen and see on the map where i am

cool?

Remote viewing your desktop, means you need to be connected to the net always (which you seem to have), and will require lot of data transfer (an unlimited bandwidth or ready to shell out money)

I also have an always on unlimited download gprs connection, but in some regions, the cell signal may be weak, or i may need to switch off the phone.

Since I also do long trips, I have started work on a program to update my location (latitude and longitude) to my server. The server then takes these longitude and displays the location in google maps, updating the location using google map api every 10 seconds or so.

This way the last known position when the N810 could connect to the net will be updated to the web server.
