Are there any plans to add real audio to canola at some point as there are a lot of great streams out there and it would be great if these could be managed from one place - the built in media player comes preconfigured with some bbc radio stations for example.

Thanks.

Hi Jer,

I looked in garage, and saw that kenneth added the support for Real Audio in the stream section. So we do support bbc now...

Jer :

Just confirming : the BBC FIVE something is the one supported =) IT was requested in garage, and let me know if you have any other feeds that you would like to see supported!

One more update: our speed to support more formats increased, and theres one dev working solely on that now. So I will let you guys know when the LMS (the scanner is updated) then you only need to update that package to have more and more formats.

Real Audio and Mp4 (m4a) formats are the next in line, and they will be for sure in the next release, as well a improved support for wma (only file name in this version )

Marcelo,
I would love to see all of the BBC feeds supported, BBC radio 1 is a real audio feed which I would like to see supported too, there are also the play again links for various shows but I am not sure if these are static or dynamic links from the bbc's website. Apart from the BBC website (www.bbc.co.uk/radio1) there is another site with the links on it at www.beebotron.timeforabrew.com which lists links to all of the .ram/.rm files. Ideally if canola supports real player it would be great to have all of these available.

Also how is the release coming, have all issues been resolved and is today the day?

The beebotron site lists links for 1Xtra, 6 music, bbc 1, 2, 3, 4, five live, 7, wales, scotland, ulster and the world service. It also lists the watch again links although this is just a brief news cast and the UK weather. Seems to be a pretty good site for all of the BBC links centralised in one place both the listen live links and the listen again links.

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the feeds, We actually have plans ( if there's no licenses issues) to release Canola2 (final version) with a list of pre-configured stations, and bbc seems to be a good choice for that.

About the Update: Well, as I said, there's only one critical bug holding it (Podcast - download manager) is not stable in bora. The whole team is looking at it right now, and we expect for sure to release it today.

The other bug, (actually it will be a bug again) is that if you set the volume on the default media player.. and don't have mplayer installed, you will have some volume glitches. When Canola tries to pause / set volume.. the media player goes there and set backs to " it's " state before Canola.. a mess. We are going to provide the Nokia guys with the problem and see what can be done. For now, we recommend not messing too much with the volume on the media player : /

Off topic but why does the music sound lower on canola than the default media player ? same goes for ukmp! mp3s sound super loud on default media player but in canola sounds really low!

Hi Loader, I think this is the bug I told you :/ But try the following (we cannot set the global volumes)

1) set the global volume to max
2) set the default media volume to max (close it)
3) open canola

play something.

UKMP uses Mplayer to plays sounds (AFAIK), thus it doesnt'suffer from the media player sound problems... we do : /

Tell me if this "works", as we are looking for a way to scape the media player volume dictatorship asap =)

Again the note : Canola doesn't play the sound =) We actually send a Dbus command to the default media engine (the engine behind the media player) to play a specific mp3. thus there's no different in playback =) BUT the bugs between this communication and other processes using media engine can happen ( what I think is the case)

Has anyone added any of the BBC real player streams in the new update to Canola yet? How did you do this?

I tried setting up "rtsp://rmlive.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive/ev7/live24/radio1/live/r1_dsat_g2.ra" under the internet audio options but it did not work.

What am I missing?

Thanks
