Looking for standalone metric-english conversion unit program (Celcius to/from Farenheit, pounds to/from kgs etc.)
Do you know whether such app exists for 2008?
Thanks.

If you don't mind commandline utilities you might want to try units

http://www.gnu.org/software/units/units.html

a package for maemo is available at

http://www.westerstrom.com/projects/maemo-units/

and of course there's an addon to emacs...

Sure! I've recompiled the GNU units program for Chinook (maemo 2008), since I wasn't able to find a copy in a repository. I've also got the GUI gonvert
graphical (Pygtk) units conversion package. http://www.unihedron.com/projects/gonvert/downloads/ on my N810. I wrote a trivial shell script to install the program.

If you give me your email address, I'll gladly supply the download link.

I am not posting the URL because they are currently hosted in a place that's not suitable for long-term use. These programs need someone else to package them nicely as ".deb" files and to get them included in a proper repository for easy public access. I'd welcome any help with those tasks.

This way, I can contact the people who've downloaded it to let them know when the software finally gets into a real repository, when it gets into a maemo garage project, or about any updates.
