am running OS2008 on an N800. I am trying to pair my N800 with my linux gateway/router so I get PAN running (please don't discuss PAN here, that's been done to death elsewhere).

So, I set my linux box's hcid.conf class to 0x50020c, auth enable, encrypt enable, set my pin to 1234. Started hcidump.

and used "control panel->bluetooth, devices, new" and it found the linux server. Entered the pin 1234 and selected ok. The N800 reported "Pairing failed. Authentication failed. Try again?". If I try again, the same error occurs.

Here's the hcidump below, useful in that it shows the devices are talking to each other.
HCI sniffer - Bluetooth packet analyzer ver 1.40

I have tried it with "auth" and "encrypt" disabled and various combinations. I removed the link keys files on the machines from previous connections. On the N800 I removed any references in the /var/lib/bluetooth/xx:xx:...xx/* files!

I can "l2ping" the nokia from the linux desktop, "sdptool browse" it. I have also tried taking the random pin offered by the N800 when I first select the device, putting it into the "pin" file on the desktop and restarting bluetooth. I have tried shutting down bluetooth on desktop, removing and reinserting the USB bluetooth dongle.

I'm very sorry if this has been done to death. I seem to recall having this working with OS2007. If anyone can get pairing to work between OS2008 and kernel 2.6.22, and can tell me what settings are in their hcid.conf file I've be very grateful!

thanks

I set up another two linux boxes with pretty much the same setting and I can pair with it, and get PAND working, so something must have gone wrong with the first one which I can't determine at the moment. sigh.
