Hey everyone,

I have bought a nokia handsfree with 5 buttons instead of 1(the one that n800 ships with).

Is there any way to set up these buttons to be recognized by the IT?
The main use for them would be media player controls (next/previous/volume up/down/ play-pause). If the default media player would not support it, is there some other player that would?
(yeah, this part should be in "applications", but the main question is the handsfree support)

thanks

Ilia

Is this BT? If so, it's probably AVRCP, which is not, to my knowledge, implemented yet.

no, it's not bluetooth, but a 3.5mm plug.

it's just like the handsfree included with any n800, but it has 5 buttons instead of one.
on the original one, the button (always located at the microphone) was only seen by skype, and responded as a hang-up signal.
neither of the 5 buttons i now have is seen by any program (except one; seen by skype with the same effect).

so basicly, it's a 3.5mm plug, separated into 4 sections (ground, left/right earphone, microphone)- those are the metallic separations on the plug itself.

any clue how to set this up?

thanks

It may be worth posting a URL or a product code so people can see what it is. That may give someone enough information for an, "Aha!" moment on what software checks could be made. Presumably the different buttons use a different resistance when pressed which would explain why at least one works (rather than none at all).

I would guess only new software would recognize it though.

I'd be interested in a multi button headset, on the n810 I'm not fond of the button placement so a wired remote for say FBReader would be awesome.

Eureka!

After searching about 100 pages on google images, i finally found it:
http://europe.nokia.com/A4471118

the description says enough, but I clarify: this was made for phones, and I would like IT support. the microphone and the speakers work perfectly.
there are 3 buttons on the side (on the left in the photo), and the two silver sections facing you are also buttons.

how do I make the IT see them?

thanks

Thanks for the URL, it looks like you have a Nokia Stereo Headset HS-43, they are out of stock with Nokia (30 USD) but ebay somtimes has them for 5 USD + about 8 USD for shipping http://cgi.ebay.com/Handsfree-Headse...QQcmdZViewItem .

I did some more research but I've not worked out the API to detect the regular microphone button :-(

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=12143 and http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...0&postcount=17 speculate the regular button grounds out the Mic line (seems reasonable). I wonder if it is worth posting on the developers mailing list about how the regular button is detected and then see if the API can be called differently.

thanks, but this headset (bought at 10GBP ~ 20USD) had 5 buttons. this makes the matter even more complicated since the input from each one of them differs. I find it quite nice that skype can see one of them.

is there an option to monitor all the input that the IT receives? this way, I would select the monitor of the headset, measure resistances (I believe this is what would change once the button is pressed), and then tell the IT (no clue how... yet) to memorize this input. The final stage would be to associate this input with a hardware or software button.

This would be the theory. In practice, for the first step, do you know of any monitor?

I read the links you posted; the first one relates to the replacement of earphones; yet it had only one button, recognized by VoIP software; I have more buttons and want them recognized by all software...
