Hi all,

I apologize for my frustration, but I want to love my newly eBayed 770, but the "path too deep" error I get when I try and USB transfer files over to the mem card is about to drive me mad.

I've tried different USB cables (plugged in front and behind my tower).
I've tried using my wife's desktop.
I've tried using TerraCopy.
I've tried zipping and unzipping to the card.
I've tried CTRL-C and CTRL-V'ing into the card.

Here's the kicker, about every 10th attempt the file sticks to the 770. It's completely random, the same file, tried countless times SOMETIMES sticks.

Arrrgh.

Any tips before I make my 770 an expensive doorstop?

Thanks a bunch,
Oyjord.

Seems a bit unfair to classify that as a nokia 770 issue, when it is a windows XP/2000 error. Do you have the latest of everything on your PC?

Do you have a wireless network where you can transfer the files over? Sorry I can't be more specific help as I don't use my 770 with a windows machine.

Did you try with really short filenames (ie, dos 8.3 characters names)?

Hi,

You're right, it's most likely not an inherent 770 problem, but since I've tried it on two different XP boxes, I'm starting to wonder.

Yep, I've tried really short filenames as well.

I have a wireless network here at home, but honestly, I've no clue how to get the 770 on my home network wirelessly. It can surf my wireless internet just fine, but I think I have to use Xterm somehow to get in on my wireless home network?

Thanks,
Oy.

Have you tried a card reader? What is it that you are transferring, my music is only a 3 deep structure?
You might try formating the card, it might be in FAT 16 or something...
Just some thoughts, hope you get it fixed.

Well, I don't know if you have discussed this elsewhere and what you have tried, but starting at basic principles, is the path too deep? FAT only allows 8 deep folders, and it only allows a certain length of files (ie, the whole path has to be less than a certain number of characters - possibly 254). Try a folder just on the root.
If you have formatted the card as fat or just left it the way it came, it probably isn't the best format for the nokia. I cant remember what mine is.

Hmm.. Just plugged in my external lead to my mac, and it says 'System is using external card for extended virtual memory', so I can't mount it without quiting stuff!
