I was just curious if anyone had managed to get any Java based games running under any of the Java solutions for maemo?

I've got an n810, and I'd love to be able to play boardgames on Brettspielwelt (http://www.brettspielwelt.de/). If Java on the n8xx was stable and fast enough, it would be a great way to access lots of games online.

The client will run with jalimo but in all honesty it is unusable due to the lack of memory and speed. I gave up after wasting a couple of days on it.

You will need to install the GNU Class path libs in addition to the basic Jalimo package to get it walking (running is completely the wrong term here).

Sorry for the bad news.

I might give it a try since I'm a glutton for punishment. I figured it would run slowly, if at all. It's a shame they don't have an optimized and portable client. :-(

I'm assuming I can install jalimo and the classpath stuff from the second install link on this page: http://wiki.evolvis.org/jalimo/index.php/Maemo

Did you need to do anything special to get it to "walk"? I'm assuming I can just use the JAR file that comes with the client archive...?

Thanks!

I'm afraid i can't recall all of the steps i took, certainly i did install jalimo from the evolvis link. This will add a repository where you can find the other packages required, i think it was the GTK bindings that gave me the most problems.

I then installed the linux version of the Brettspielwelt client and ran it from an xterm. Give it a while and you will get to the home screen.

I won't be bothering to try and install it again but feel free to post any errors you run into, they may trigger something from my memory that i can help with.

Good luck (-:

Thanks for the information. I managed to get it working, but I see what you mean. :-(

If you've still got the cacao stuff installed and are up for another challenge, you may want to take a look at this: http://www.gravon.de/gravon/download.jsp

It's much less popular than Brettspielwelt, but it hosts a few popular games including Tichu. I installed the Linux client and ran it. The login screen comes up fine, but when the main window comes up, I get a null pointer exception. I'm not sure what is going on. It didn't seem to be complaining about missing packages, but it doesn't work. If I could get it running I have a little hope that it might be playable, since it's much more streamlined than Brettspielwelt.

Anyhow, thanks for responding about BSW.
