Thanks ArnimS but I still get the same problem. I deleted all my repo lists, moved the sources file and status but still . Smart Package Manager worked fine . I'll look into this more.

I've even got apt 7 running on my N800. I guess I have to face facts, N800 isn't powerful enough for synaptic or (probably) I can't program.

****, God hates me

Even in aptitude. I've tracked it down to the libapt I'm using for dev purposes.

Hi Qwerty,

You can try adding the following line to your /etc/apt/apt.conf:
APT::Cache-Limit 30000000;

Alternatively, you can put it in a file (e.g. 11bigcache) under /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/

Hi,

Thanks but I've given up on it. I'm sure it's the libapt libraries I've used as the older ones that application manager use work fine and I can't use the older libraries because of missing symbols.

I can't afford to reflash my N800 for the 10th time in 3 days again because I keep breaking the apt on my system. If anyone wants the debs (install via dpkg --extract) or the source of the synaptic, drop me a reply.

I would try what you said mrunx but I don't have synaptic and I am reluctant to install it again.
