I'm having problems with the keyboard lights and LED, and I'm not sure if they are related (N810 running from external card).

Keyboard Backlight: The keyboard light on my N810 is *always* on--even when I close the keyboard or close it and lock the screen/keyboard. I've tested the light sensor (using the homelightmeter applet), and it is working fine. When I boot from the internal card, the keyboard light functions properly. I've tried rebooting several times; however, the keyboard light never turns off.

LED: The LED is no longer working at all. In the display settings, I have selected the LED to notify for all of the possible events; however, the LED does not work for any events (green or blue). I've used a python script to test the LED, and the script runs, but the LED does not light. Again, the LED works fine when I boot with the internal card.

It seems that these probs crept in over the past week.

I really do not want to think about flashing, and I'm guessing that some config file(s) are messed up somewhere.

Can anyone shed any light?

Well then don't; your LED's not flashing, so you can stop thinking about it.

Your keyboard can, all the time.

(No, I have nothing useful to say; but two begging opportunities were too much for me.)

Benson, thanks for the tease. ;-) I didn't realize my bad puns until after I posted it.

Well, I hope my troubles are over. I played around with it for quite some time and was finally going to brute force attack it by comparing configuration files, installed libraries, etc. from the working original installation to the external card installation.

While I was doing this, I discovered some corruption on my external card. I plugged the card into my Linux box and ran fsck on it. It fixed a bunch of errors, and after putting the card back in my N810, both the keyboard and cover LED's seem to work fine. :-)

It appears that I may have created the corruption when I was "fixing" the format on the internal card. Before reformatting my internal card, I copied some files from the corrupted internal to the external card. At any rate, I'll keep an eye on my card to make sure the card isn't going snotty on me.

By the way, if it's any use to anyone, the control files for the keyboard are in `/sys/class/leds/keyboard/', while the files for the external LED are in `/sys/class/leds/cover'.

Edit: Is there a way to mark this topic solved?
