has anyone tried to bond a MPX220 smartphone to the 770? everytime i try, the 770 says: "The selected phone does not support file transfer. It can only be used for dial-up networking." this is fine, but the MPX220 at this point states: "...the connection failed or the passkey is incorrect." has anyone elserun into this problem?
thanks!

The bluetooth pairing is only for a short time. Once you send the passkey from the 770, enter it immediately on your smartphone.

As for file transfer, the 770 only supports only a few that you can use file manager to browse its contents with. I guess the MPX220 is not supported.

There's no wireless at my office.

If I use a USB Bluetooth adapter with my WinXP laptop connected (by cable) to the company network, will I be able to access the internet from the 770?

I called the manufacturer tech-support (pre-purchase) and the best info I could get was that the software to do this would have to come from Nokia.

Anyone able to say whether this works or not?

Thanks,

Roger

Roger I had the same idea today because wireless in our office was down and I couldn't connect to any of the *many* other networks that show up. I have a Mac Mini with a Bluetooth adaptor for an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard that I use in my office, so I thought I'd try that. The devices saw each other; when I entered the pairing code, I got a message from the 770 that the Mini wasn't compatible - sorry I didn't write down the error message exactly. I haven't given up, but I don't really know much about Bluetooth.

Hmm-m-m.

Theoretically, it shouldn't be any different than a PDA surfing the net using your desktop's internet connection.

But putting Apple or Linux into the mix sure does make predicting whether it will work (or figuring out exactly which part didn't work in your case) complicated.

Tsk Tsk. A moderator hijacking a thread?

I stumbled across this earlier in my discoveries, so I can't remember the source.

IIRC (oh, not that again) - The 770 is performing service discovery for something that is standard on a phone, but not implemented on computer BT connections. I would look for a dev to fix this in the near future, or load up linux and follow these directions:

Edited to add:
Maybe not: https://maemo.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=207
What an unfortunate response.

Looks more like the answer is at RealNitro's blog (mentioned in the thread you referenced):

Bit complicated, it looks to me. Plus you've got to be root.

I'll be taking this slowly, one step at a time, for sure.
