ATLANTA -- Georgia retailers soon will be banned from selling candy flavored to taste like marijuana to children.

Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue signed a measure into law Wednesday that bans the sale of "marijuana flavored products" to minors -- anyone under 18 -- and calls for a fine of up to $500 for each offense.

The measure takes effect July 1st.

It targets businesses that sell the candies with drug-inspired names such as "Kronic Kandy" and "Pot Suckers."

The law says the candies promote drug use.

Senator Doug Stoner pushed the bill in the senate. "I don't think that folks are aware this is going on," Stoner told Channel 2 in April. "It's mainly, from what I can tell, particularly targeted to minority communities."

Hahahah! I learned that God has a sensahumor a looong time ago :P

But still, that's wicked funny.

Actually though, It's kinda scary. I did a quick google search and there's like 5 different companies making pot-flavored candy and selling it to kids :/

I've heard of this, having had a job at a gas station last year and kids asking me if we carried it.

BTW: Has anyone here attempted to drink bong water before (many years ago, uh, in college)? Why would candy tasting like pot sell at all?

I think you need to explain this in more detail for the less English-savvy forum participants. Not everybody is on track with current, let alone historical American slang.

I do admit I'm a bit baffled by that Manning woman's remark: "Some people think their rights are their rights". Well... yeah, what else? I wonder what she had been smoking/snorting/shooting when she let that doozie rip.

Yes, I know she'd received death threats, but come on: Email death threats? Ooohhh, I'm so scared! I have a CD full of those that I keep for entertainment on slow tv nights.

Im glad i grew up in a time where everyone could freely enjoy marijuana flavored candy.

LOL sure i think we all have enjoyed a good drink of bong water every now and then to take the edge off. I suppose they will outlaw that next?!
