We know from the Maemo SVN commit messages there have been improvements. How much, no-one really knows yet AFAIK.

from the screenhots it looks like it has the same gui. depressing. i ope i's better in other sress though.

On the other hand, I saw GtkHTML (used mostly by Evolution mail renderer, I believe) going in to the repository the other day. So maybe there is hope for rendering times of less than five seconds per email

Then again, it was only last week or so -- I'd hope they're not changing important components this late in the game.
(EDIT: ) I don't actually know how they use the repo, could be that they've been working on it internally for longer.
