I know this is an internet tablet, and that there is an Internet Radio Applet for the homesceen, but I'd like to know if there is, or ever was developed, an applet that would play local music content.

I'm thinking in the way of something about the size of the OS2008 Clock Applet; scrolling track display, play/stop/RW/FF buttons; and will just use MPlayer to play.

Nothing needed like playlists or anything like that, but if the developer wants to get fancy and let it use playlists created with mPlayer, Canola 2, etc., then be my guest.

The idea being to get another applet out there, and maybe add some simplicity into using our ITs some.

Site note: I'd love to have this as a plugin for Canola, that would work outside of Canola in a very trimmed down manner, but figured that it would be better to ask/request for development something a bit more open to other developers' abilities.

Shouldn't use mplayer; should use mpd!

That said... It's a good idea, either way. But the mpd version is what I'd work on, were I working on one. (Indeed, it's conceivable I start working on one... but it will be mpd, if so.) Actually, I probably won't, as it just occurred to me that I can toss prev, play/pause, next, and mmpc icons in Personal Launcher.

Yeah but I think it would be easier to just have an app already on your desktop with those items... and considering these are just are straights commands on a CLI it seems to me it would be extremely easy to write a simple python app for it...

I haven't actually done any python dev on this yet.. I'm more a ruby person myself, but it can't be too difficult.

The osso-media-server which is the backend for the built in media player and canola by default can be controlled via dbus commands.

Throw in a applet using python-hildondesktop and python-dbus...

So then I take it that this is something doable, and probably a bit simple to put together? If I had the time to learn, I'd be busy with this and a few other projects.
