it would be kinda cool if that were real, but then again the electronics would take space away from the magazine, so I dunno if it would be feasible.

Perfectly feasible, for a single-shot. Just put a dummy follower and spring in the top of the mag well to trip the hold-open catch, it'll eject the spent casing, you drop the next round in and hit the release.
