liqbase includes an interface to adjust the cpu settings between powersave, ondemand (the default) and performance.

At present no-one has created a default desktop UI for setting these ( advanced backlight would be perfect ).

In performance mode the cpu does not waste time increasing speed and so gives a more snappy response to all round system usage.

Of course, this may effect the battery and of course does not cure all ills, but I live in performance mode all the time and like the difference it makes.

as for stability, I don't have issues, if you have something specific maybe people will help.

about liqbase: how does it work? Perfomance mode works for all applications or only for "liqbase suite"? What tool are there in liqbase? is something like overclocking, so, there the a risk to damaging the cpu (or other hardware components)?

inside maemo linux there are already kernel mode cpu adjustments available which allow you to decide the profile in use, the tweaks I make do not overclock the CPU, but merely change the power saving adjustments.

The CPU normally sits at a low frequency until it detects that its busy and will then automatically clock itself up as required, performance simply sits at the higher speed. It still has wait states and from my experience does not effect battery as much as I initially thought it would (killers are screen brightness and wifi etc which are not touched by this tweak)

The changes are global to the system and remain until you change them again or reboot your device (in which case it reverts to the on demand setting)

liqbase simply gives you a UI to configure and choose these options, it works by calling variations on the following script as required:

echo performance >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

As I mentioned it would be nice to have these settings configurable directly from the hildon desktop, its something people are used to doing on other devices.

Oh, ok. I understand! But, what about liqbase features...(http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/liqbase) what does it mean? What about sketch, document viewer, camera, ecc.? Liqbase is a very interesting project! Tomorrow I will try it on my internet tablet!
