GTA04?

My biggest gripes against the iPhone are hardware related, so putting Android on it wouldn't make me happy/enthused, other than it helping to diversify the android ecosystem.

I'd rather, for obvious reasons, see Android on the tablet...

Some people out on the intertubes are rather naive (Not saying you are...). They see "Linux on iPhone" and expect Android to be released for it the next day. It will take a LONG time for a fully usable Linux to come to the iPhone, not to mention the jailbreak killer Apple's attempts to close the holes in the wall.

I'd rather use iPhone OS on a iPhone. By the time Android gets 100% ported to iPhone, its going to be a crappy phone...

I wouldn't. And I'd like to hear what those "obvious reasons" are...

Dalvik on NIT? Yes, absolutely, hope it happens sooner rather than later. Along with Dalvik for Ubuntu, Dalvik for Debian, Dalvik for Suse, Dalvik for RedHat, etc.

Android, with its user-locked-out Linux layer, lack of X windows (and thus lack of ability to run Maemo or commodity apps), etc.? Definitely wouldn't want that. I stopped using my NIT in favor of the G1, and I'd still call a native port of Android to the NIT "a colossally bad idea".

The best path for "Android" and "Nokia" is porting Dalvik to Maemo. The worst path is porting Android to the NIT platform.

You know what I mean.

Ok, the "Obvious reason" is because I have a NIT and not an iPhone.

Also, who said that just because Android is on the NIT, that Maemo magically runs away. As you said, it could just be the Dalvik VM, a chroot, or a native install. All are fine in my book... (more choices the better, the main reason for not getting an iPhone)

Ah. I see a definite distinction between "Android on the NIT" and "Dalvik on Maemo". Android is the whole OS, complete with the lock-outs and such. If you're using the term to cast a wider net, then yeah, I can see that.
