Many of us like penguinbait. A lot. He has brought so many hacks, features and fame to this community. Yet he is lately a bit... how to say? Like unsatisfied. Impatient. Compulsive. He is writing more lines a day of natural language than ever. He even thinks of running for election.

So this is a poll to honor penguinbait, the man and the myth. We love you! And we hope to do our best to bring back you community happiness.

<del>And please, whenever penguinbait writes a post here THANK HIM. No matter what he says.</del> EDIT - forgot that there is no Thanks! in the Off-Topic forum. Anyway, thank him elsewhere then.

Excellent qgil a Poll by comitee...

Should we propose choices?

Mine would be.

-Nothing. He hasn't changed the forum has.

Added: ...Many on this board post detailed meaningful threads. The payback for providing these is the audience a forum provides. That is how most think a forum works. You bring your own soap box, you look for a place to set it up, and you wait for the opportune time to begin speaking from atop it.

If your presentation is any good the audience gives you their attention, if its not their attention goes to another presenter on yet another soap box.
However, if your presentation is really good you will involve the audience in a lively and sometimes spirited Socratic discourse. People like this kind of interaction with a presenter of new ideas. Because of this, if the presenter returns often, they may find people already there waiting for them.

It is difficult to attract presenters if the don’t know where to set up their soap boxes... It is even more difficult to retain repeat presenters if they feel that where they set-up could change the next time they come because they know that the crowd that greeted them the last time might not be there. And finally, if the crowd cant find what they set out for, they will eventually stop coming as well.

"when you could have 3 to hack?" that's interesting. What would the third one be?

The forum hasn't changed. I know this because when I've said so someone from maemo.org has always shown up to make a post correcting me and declaring that the forum wouldn't change, isn't changing and hasn't changed.

Well, keep on saying it, because if you stop saying it, the forum will have changed due to the lack of your posts saying it has changed.

BTW, after seeing the choices I voted for...

He needs a new Maemo 5 device to hack
That would pro'ly shut a lot of us up.

He's just doing some Spring cleaning. I for one appreciate his open and honest passionate skepticism, but I won't comment on his methods because I believe he's trying to strengthen the community. How weak this place would be if this had nothing but a solidifying affect. Sure, some may feel it might not put Nokia's or the community's best face forward, but that's not the point. Truth is the point. This is the computing world; you're sh*t either works or it doesn't. And if it doesn't, you better fix it.

I was the first to say it because I know how these "mergers" go. But I suspect someone else will be the last to say it.

I really have been coming here for 3 years, wow I need a life

I started out by reading and being a leech on the community, reading posts and waiting for software....

Then I decided I could actually contribute by just writing some helpful howto's in the forums. So I did some maemo-mapper howto's, some clone to sd howto's.

Eventually I got on to installing the SDK, mostly because I wanted a tool to bypass a proxy server when I was working at EDS.

Being a lover of all things linux were what drew me to the Nokia 770 to start. Eventually, while liking my tablet, I really wanted an alternate window maager that really looked like linux, so I compiled Window Maker and posted my first video on youtube

The overwhelming response pushed me on to seeing what other linux experiences could be had on the tablet. This followed with Rox-Windowmaker, Rox-openbox, every window manager available for linux was tested, XFCE, and KDE.

Then my next effort was, Printing, I compiled cups and made the tablet easily be able to print to postscript printer, well from the command line. Maemo apps didn't have a print option. This was eventually put into KDE.

Koffice came next and lots of tweaks to try make KDE more useable on the tablet. including incorporating BT mouse support.

Somewhere prior, I put out cdrom tools, then eventually compiled K3B, and made it possible to burn CD's and DVD's via usb from tablet.

Then I spent some time on tablethacker.com trying to document and organize some of my still relevant contributions.

As of late I really want to get more people involved in the community and help people better understand how things are laid out and how things work.

Yes the forum has changed, and thats OK, but I think this has given several people renewed effort into wanting to become a more active member in the community. People who are now wanting to get involved and help shape the future of this wonderful community.

I really am only giving my perspective as an outsider to the internal working of the process. I realize you can say quit standing outside and come in. However I feel there is some confusion on how things are done around here, and I feel I need to be out here to fix the problems I see, before attempting to come inside.

My main goal is not to start trouble, but to make this community and the decisions that it makes more accessible, understandable to the USER community.

I honestly only do this because I feel if I am confused about some things that happen, how they happen, and why those decisions were made, so I assume other people have the same view's? So I am only trying to represent those people and make things better for the community at large.

My intent has never been to tear this community apart, it is actually quite the opposite intention.

I know I have gotten mad a few times as of late, as many people have. I apologize for some of my frustrations and hope we can continue to have open dialog about how we can rally this community forward.

I am sure that those of you that have been here a while are used to me freaking out about something every now and then, remember the data corruption bug. That was some screaming pissed off penguinbait

Viva la comunidad

EDIT: I voted
