Hello,

I'm considering an N810 and had some questions on the Skype client.

I need a device that lets me do Skype chats (typing chats) but gives me the same level of control over chat sounds as the full Windows client. Specifically, I need the option to make the incoming chat sound loud and long by specifying a custom sound. Does the N810 Skype client allow for this?

How's the speaker on the N810. Can it get as loud as a cell phone ringer?

I use Skype on my N800, the version is 10014/1.7.113.22.2. Should be the same as N810. First of all the ringing is as loud as my cell phone. Second, in the tools/sounds there are 14 preconfigured skype sounds various alerts. As far are I can tell, these cannot be changed. For instance a "Skype Exit" is aways the same sound. I guess you could take your own sound, rename it to "Skype Exit and put it in the proper folder to replace the old sound.

How do you use the built-in camera on the N810, to make video calls on Skype?
I just downloaded it and it seems pretty nifty. =)

Sorry, no Video call support on Skype for the N810 (inspite of the N810/N800 having a camera).

Gizmo client for the N810 does support Video calls though.

people have been requesting video chat from skype since forever not gonna happen for a while (maybe forever?) cause they say the processing speed on the n8*0 isn't high enough..

New question, but still on topic (IMHO):

Is it just me, or can Skype not be minimized while using it? I was talking away on skype on my N800, and my mind was wandering, I thought I'd check my RSS feeds at the same time. I minimized it and the conversation stopped. I guess this is normal? I know we have restrictions of the GUI, but I was still surprised. Maximizing it again kept the same conversation going, so it's not a huge issue. I guess I will have to pay full attention to my skype conversations.

I just called someone on Skype. During a call you cannot minmize or even close. As soon as I went to web to check my email it ended my call.

Well, you need not minimize Skype to switch to a different app, or even the home screen, so it's not a functional issue that I can see.

(Of somewhat more consequence is the related inability to chat and voice-call simultaneously, which can be quite helpful when one party is in an adverse recording environment; this is noncircumventable, because I need to access the same program.)
