I use YouAmp. In "preferences" you can choose the folder where your songs are.

Plan #2 - You can install DBUS Switcher with allows you to associate you file extention (.mp3) to an application.
Now when you are in the file manager you can go to a folder and double click on a file to play it. If you single click on a file and continue to hold down the sytlus a window will pop up so that you can "select all". Now your player will play all the songs in that folder.

I'd recommend MediaBox for dealing with large media collections.
And you don't have to use the indexing features. Just playing folders without indexing works well, too.

Just an FYI, you can tell Canola to not update the database. You'd still have to sit for a bit the first time with 13 000 songs though.
I am looking for a simple audio player that does what I need: play songs in a directory. I think this should be the easiest thing to do in a N800, but I failed.
I tried Canola. Wow, what a great UI! However, it was so damn slow (13000 songs?), that I uninstalled it. It is ok to slowly update the database *when you tell it*, but how can I make it faster for everyday use?
mediaplayer is also very slow, though.
In fact, what I want is a media player that does NOT classify my songs. They are already classified by directories and subdirectories. I tried to play songs clicking them in the filemanager, but although mediaplayer opens, it says "Unable to play" (why????).
Should I give up and install something else, like mplayer?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!!
L.
