How big would a single photo file be at 1 gigapixel? About a thousand times bigger than a 1 megapixel picture?

Just noticed something else too:

For years people have laughed at series like CSI etc when they would zoom in on a photo, it would turn fuzzy, then a sharper version would magically appear on top. Unrealistic, silly, stupid.

But now that's exactly how a gigapixel camera's photo site works! :-)

The gigapixel photo site works that way because it downloads and displays new tiles as you zoom in, just as satellite image map sites do. On the other hand, law enforcement shows such as CSI start with a still from a security camera recorded at 300 lines, zoom in on a tiny license plate that's maybe a 225 pixel area in the image, if that, and in a few seconds, their software "cleans it up" to reveal the plate number.

Oh I know gigapixel cameras have higher resolutions, but it was just the implementation which made me laugh. It's exactly like those TV programmes...
