Yesterday Reggie gave moderator permissions to some ITt contributors that had requested them. I was lucky and got them too. You have probably start seeing the effects with all these threads moved to other forums.

Post your thoughts here related to moving threads. For instance, these are my first impressions:

- There are actually few threads that *really* have no better place than General or Newbie. We must assume real newbies will tend to post there as they are unsure about the rest, and we probably need some patience while the new organization consolidates. But it's worth investing extra time watching these two forums and moving the threads that can find a better place elsewhere, as they help current and new posters find their way.

- Plenty of threads go actually to apps, which might create some chaos at the beginning but can be really benefitial as we start creating categories based on the topics of the threads. For instance, Multimedia and Internet/Browser get a lot of heat and it's not hard to imagine people following them while not caring much about most of the rest.

- The OS forums are for platform topics, but now we hit the old discussion of "what is an application?". Things like File manager, Application Manager or Clock are applications strictly speaking but most users will related them to the OS, to the platform. I think we should follow that principle as well. Actually, this might save a good chink of the confusion about "official / unofficial apps" if we simply list under OS thos apps that are almost intrinsically bundles with the OS. To be fine tuned.

- The N810 / N810 / 770 forums should have mostly posts about hardware, moving systematically to Apps and OS those threads that are related to them even if the poster (with the best of his intentions, ties to a piece of hardware e.g. "Best media player for the N810" or "Wifi problems with my N800".

- Also, we need to review the sticky threads and update those containing posting instructions. They are specially needed in General and Newbie.

- And it would be good to know who has moderator permissions and know who can follow regularly a specific forum to make sure it kepps being cleaned (e.g. I can volunteer with General). Even if many of us follow everything through New Posts, I guess most of us simply don't have the time to commit moderating all new threads.

Could we get a list of these moderators on the wiki?

When moving a thread you have three options:

- Don't leave any trace in the original forum.
- Leave a permanent link in the original forum.
- Leave a temporary link in the original forum (defaults to 1 month).

What I'm doing is to go 1 month, so the original poster and followers have time to realize the change. Unless the thread is very long and popular, then a permanent link is probably better.

I'd be willing to do some moderation. In moderation, of course.

Oh snap!

But most threads die off because they are quickly answered, so like qole says, do it in moderation. I also think we should have sticky threads, they make finding important information easier.

Are there moderator levels, like in some other forums? Some folks in the UTC-n timezones could be allowed to kill sale spam postings, for example.. to get rid of them earlier than now.

Here the moderator breakdown: http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showgroups.php

Apparently, handful is a mod in the Canola forum, and timsamoff is also a super moderator.

[QUOTE=Thesandlord;272585]But most threads die off because they are quickly answered, so like qole says, do it in moderation.[QUOTE]

Now the Newbie first page looks like almost empty with most of the entries reading "Moved". I think this is helpful to newbies finding their way, and if they don't they can still post in that forum.

Threads die off, but many times they are resurrected months after by someone hitting a similar problem. Moving them to the corresponding threads as they appear isn't that hard. No need to go and dig to older posts sleeping in "wrong" forums.

I also think we should have sticky threads, they make finding important information easier.
Sure. Anybody volunteering updating / rewriting the current sticky threads? The most urgent candidates are: General, Newbie, N810, N800 and 770 (the 3 devices can be handled with almost the same sticky topic saying that they are for hardware issues, for software topics go to OS.... (platform) or the Applications thread.
