Did you had/have a previous scratchbox installation in your system ?

I am using the script posted on this site
maemo-scratchbox-install_4.1.2.sh

This is an install to a recent ubuntu install - there is no other scratchbox installation to my knowledge -- I appreciate your assistance.

Try "apt-get -f install" and then start the install script again, seems that some packages weren't fully installed.

I tried your instructions - received identical response from the system - setting up scratchbox-core (1.0.11).. messages after this point the same as before - I am new to ubuntu but it would appear the /scratchbox/sbin directory doesn't exist -- any ideas?

Did you ran the command above as root ? (sudo apt-get -f install)
What was the output of this command ?

Do the following command(this is one line command):
sudo apt-get remove scratchbox-core scratchbox-devkit-cputransp scratchbox-devkit-debian scratchbox-devkit-doctools scratchbox-devkit-maemo3 scratchbox-devkit-perl

Then run the scratchbox script: sudo ./maemo-scratchbox-install_4.1.2.sh

Yeah, it appears your repositories are in an inconsistent state. Remove scratchbox and try to re-install by following Valerio's one-liner.
