My desktop displays 7 applets at the very top. Go to "settings", "control panel", "panels", "status bar" and click on the applets that you want displayed.

I know it will show more, I should have said more on ONE line instead of having to click.

How about more than 7?
You "should" be able to fit them all the way across, but I don't think it's made that way.

If you have more than 7 the left-most one is replaced by an arrow, and tapping that "opens" a second row with the remaining applets. I don't know what happens if you manage to fill that one up as well ;-)

Note that it may be a good idea to avoid having more than 7 - the second row sometimes gets stuck (bug 3325) and when that happens the hildon UI doesn't respond to input.

Indeed. I make sure that I have an applet that can control processes (osso-statusbar-cpu/load-applet/usb-otg-plugin with process killing) on the second row.

If you haven't already, you can install Advanced Backlight which provides a combination of Display and Volume in one applet.

I nearly always tend to have an xterm or three open for mutt, ssh etc but that's a good tip :-)
