I am hoping to use the n800 to follow a chat room using technology from www.addonchat.com. It is a java based chat tool. Anyone know if this is possible and if so the easiest way to actually get Java on the machine?

Search the forums for Jalimo. It's a Java engine that's supposed to get at least some Java applications running on Maemo (I couldn't get it working though).

If it's a separate Java applet, Jalimo should work for you. If it's Java embedded in a webpage, it won't work.
