Hi, I just decided to get to know and start coding for Maemo, yet I don't have a device that runs Maemo so my question is if the SDK comes with a virtual simulator or how do I know what Im doing works???

Thanks

I had that same thought. I used the maemo SDK virtual image and that comes with an installed version of EsBox. After a little tweaking you can get this running nicely. There's an emulator that runs when you hit run or debug, that provides a basic simulator of the n900 interface. It's not perfect, but it does give you a fairly good idea of how everything will work.

uhhh fancy, thanks for the info, when u say tweaking what exactly do u mean, what part or how do u tweak it?
And on the other hand, can u run downloaded applications on it, like the ones from the downloads section here?

I second that request as I have tried running the virtual image and get stuck with a "temporary domain lookup failure" whenever I try to run anything from EsBox. It seems its trying to install missing packages and failing but I am not sure what needs fixing.

I must say, its REALLY frustrating after having used Visual Studio where it "just works". The documentation on and linked from maemo.org is all over the place, not at all useful for newbies.

I was rather hoping I could write a few simple Python applications to get started but at this rate I have a better chance doing it live on the N900 than via the SDK. That will be annoying as it could be a wasted month depending on when the N900 finally get shipped.
