I cannot tell you how much I hate Nokia Customer "Support". It's surreal. It's unbelievable.

The story is... I have this problem with my Ovi account. It doesn't remember my account settings. Various details keep disappearing, but what's most annoying is that whenever I log in, my language is set to "English". I set it to "German", save it, log out, log in... it's English again. I hate it.

So after months of waiting (could be they're aware of it and fix it), I try to contact Nokia Care. They direct me to a form where I have to choose one of the following topics: Devices, Ringtones, Nokia Music, Repair, .... - Guess what's not there? Right. Ovi.

Doesn't matter. Ovi is only said to be the crucial point in Nokias strategy. It's only fair to have Ovi-related questions filed under "Other", right? Right.

So I fill in the form, explain what happens, send it.

Their reply is hilarious:
It works for them, they say. They assume I'm using an "alternative browser" (when did you last hear this phrase? "Alternative browser"?). It's not supposed to work with browsers other than Microsoft IE 7 and above. They are happy to answer further questions.

So. Well. Yes. Here I am. Trying to run MSIE7 on my N810 or on my Nokia S60 phone. (And of course I do log into Ovi with MSIE7 when I'm on a Windows PC.)

Why don't they put one of these retro-buttons on the site? "This website is best viewed with Internet Explorer 7"? That would be kind of fun.

No, not really. I'm pissed.
Not only didn't they read my mail or try to help me, they seriously tell people in 2009 that a certain type of browser is required to use their major web portal. - When did Nokia lose contact with reality?

Benny,
sorry to hear you are having so many problems with OVI. It never helps when support shrugs it's shoulders either!

I have just tried OVI.com with my N810 on the train, unfortunately it seems to work fine for me though it did suggest using low bandwidth. All my contacts and emails etceteras came up, no issues. What firmare are you using on your N810? Oh and I used MicroB just add to the challenge!

Texrat, Fargus,

thanks for feeling my pain

Sometimes this is all it needs. ... (Maybe this is all Nokia Care would have to do. Write something along the lines of "Honey, we've no idea what's wrong again over there, but let me tell you, we'd sure be pissed in your place. Man, I really can't believe we spoiled it yet again. We try, though. Honestly." - Would make me feel better than "Use IE7")

I know. It does work with all browsers I use, no matter which operating system. Their reply is plain wrong. Also, my problem is most likely not related to any kind of browser but is a bug in their database or application.

Knowing that, it's even more irritating to read such nonsense. Besides... A recent statistic shows that in central Europe, FF has 40.2% market share while IE7 has 30.6%. Which one's the "alternative browser" they're talking about?

Update! Update! Update!

It's so wonderful... It's better than watching TV. You remember that in their reply, the last sentence was they'd be happy to answer further questions? An internal ticket ID was right under this last paragraph. I naïvely assumed they wanted me to answer and tell them all they wrote was ********, and that's what I did. I can be a nasty, evil customer. I learned how to be one the hard way: I handled calls and answered mails when I started working in our customer service department. So I know all the dirty tricks.

OK. Guess what? A few minutes later, I receive an auto-reply to my mail in English (they are even more evil than I could ever be, only more subtle):

Thank you for the email.

Our support is not available via direct emails, please send your question with the Ask Nokia form that you can find on the local Nokia webpages at the following link http://www.europe.nokia.com

[This is an automatically generated acknowledgement. Please do not reply to this e-mail.]
How braindead is that? Assume you are a Nokia customer in Austria who doesn't speak English. You fill in a German form on a the German language website nokia.at. You write in German. They answer in German, inviting you to ask further questions if you have any. You answer by clicking "Reply", ask additional questions (in German) and receive an auto-reply in English that you cannot read or understand.

How are you supposed to know they didn't receive your mail and will never ever answer it?

Anyone of the Nokians here: Can you please go over to the office of the person who's responsible for all this and just scream as loud as you can?

Just when you think that they can't make it worse! You've gotta laugh really: someone is probably quite proud of the system they put in place too!

Best of luck with this one & hope it works out in the end. Let us know how you get on.

Sad but true, this is happening with Nokia most of the time: Create/find/buy a good idea and waste the opportunity by stopping/slowing development before it's complete/mature/modern; which reads "being left to a slow and painful death" for the idea.

I really love Nokia's devices and services when they work as expected and I know Nokia was in a reconstruction/transformation period in the last years; so I really wish/hope that Nokia wakes up and starts running as it should, before it's too late..

Ovi works fine with Firefox 3.6 (Beta 1). The fact that Ovi sucks is another thing though.
