I just got my N 900 yesterday evening in Dubai. The device worked great for a few hours until i installed the facebook app. It kept crashing after that and is completely dead now. Not even restarting despite several hours of battery charge. Tried everything from taking the battery and sim card out and restarting. Seems the software needs a reboot and still has bugs. Will take it to nokia support tomorrow. Disappointed!!

Does anybody know how to bring back to life....

Do you see the LED blinking yellow while charging the battery?

Flashing is always an option to resurrect it.

Getting a standalone charger for the battery is also useful, so you make sure its actually charged. Some people have claimed that there is a glitch where the N900 will fail the charge the battery if its too empty.

Its annoying, but might be worth a look.

the led doesn't exactly blink. it comes on for a few secs...phone makes a buzzing sound and i can see nokia on the screen without the backlight and then it goes dead again....this continues as long as it is on charge...else there is no response from the phone if i try to switch it on whitout the charger plugged in...

most idiot thing of all is when the battery doesn't even recharge in these cases (there was at least somebody who solved borrowing a recharged battery from a friend)... since it needs a full battery to reflash, and a reflash to be able to recharge again...
I seriously hope that gets solved....

edit: is the glitch caused by a too empty battery? (even in this case it should be seriously solved.. ;/ )

This indicates that it's failing to get into the charge mode (charging is software controlled so it has to boot partway in order to charge). If there's not currently enough power in the battery to reflash it, then you'll need to charge the battery elsewhere first (an old phone, an external charger, etc), or borrow a charged battery.

Maemo mythology might lead one to try putting the device in a fridge or a freezer for a while to see if it will charge afterwards. This seems to have helped with previous N8x0 devices, apparently. Searching the forum for "freezer" will give results.

Don't blame me if you try it and get undesirable results. Take whatever precautions are necessary to prevent moisture ingress. Do not shine laser in remaining eye. I take no responsibility for any ramifications, and have never tried this with any of my devices.
