Is it just me or is the USB connector on the N900 proprietary? I can't fit regular cables in it.

It is a standard micro USB connector.

Nothing much uses them at the mo, but they are not proprietary.

Ahh right. Got confused between mini and micro then. I just assume the connector type was calles USB-B since that's what it says on the end of the cable. The same is written on most of my mini usb cables.

Yeah, I had to think twice which it was (mini or micro). The B implies that it is in fact a USB Micro-B (as opposed to Micro-A, There are A nd B connector types of all three standard sizes of USB).

The only devices I've seen them on are Nokia stuff, but IIRC the EU mandated that all portable devices should be chargable via micro usb, so it will be more and more common in the near future.

All that mini usb is deprecated! Down with mini-usb, long live micro-usb..

Pity the N900 didn't have a mico-usb AB socket, that would've been neat!

MicroUSB is the new industry standard for mobile devices, including their charging. Having MicroUSB is the only acceptable solution for any new devices coming out.

...except for the n900's "fragile" implementation.

I was gonna say the same. Industry should've adopted the small Nokia connectors which would never break. This yanking left-right motion to unplug/plug just for charging scares me.
