I know virtual nothing about the Maemo OS, and was wondering about installing / uninstalling programs.
Since getting my N900 last week and I have installed and uninstalled a good number of programs/applications. I was wondering if this has an effect on the OS. (I.e if it were Windows you would end up with redundant files etc). I know Linux is different.
Also, are there things I can do to keep things running smoothly and stop slow down?
As I said I dont know anything - so this may be a stupid post, so please humour me!
No it's a good question. If a program is properly packaged then there should be no side effects after installing and then removing an application. In my experience this is usually the case, although occasionally a file or a configuration setting is left behind somewhere.
This is one of the things that is supposed to be tested before a package gets into maemo-extras.
