Hello,

I'm currently a Nokia Symbian user (N95) and I want to move to the N900 with all my actual data.

How could this work?

SyncML for Contacts and the Calendar?

Contacts with pictures or only without?

What about old SMS, Notes, MMS and Bookmarks?

In what kind of format are the SMS stored in the N900? Could I program a Import Filter myself?
C++ is for me a long time ago. I guess i can still learn it again... But I prefer the .NET Framework because I use it at work for a couple of years. When I can access the File from outside the N900 I can write a Import Filter on a Windows PC. Or is this not a good idea?
A ready solution would be fine. :-)

There is no support for the Nokia PC Suite. Is this correct?

How would YOU solve the problem of a movement from Symbian to Maemo? :-)

As far as I understand, there should be support for N900 in newer PC suite. But on possibility would be (at least for contacts and calendar) to sync them through ovi.com.

Personally I have backed up my contacts there. The sync was easy to set up with E71 at least.

Doesn't n900 have that nokia phone switch thing to sync data between compatible phones? Think I remember seeing it in the manual...

The tech specs on nokia.com also mention "Data transfer application for transfer of PIM information from other compatible Nokia devices". Guess that's the same thing.

Used to be able to sync my n95 with my e71 and n97 just nicely, so I suppose it will work with n900 too?

In the prototype I used, there was an option to transfer only contacts and calendar entries (no sms, bookmarks and notes). I tranfered a few contacts and everything was ok. But the renamed tabs were gone (there no such option in maemo 5) and I didn't see a defaults options. The prototype had early firmware so, there might be more options in the final firmware contacts database.

I don't think you could do ovi.com because n900 doesn't do syncml over http

Syncevolution will probably run on it though

The N95, E71 and N97 are Symbian Mobiles with the same system. The File where the SMS messages stored are similar.

Bevor I moved to Symbian, I used for many years Mobiles from Nokias S40 Series. And it was a hard work to move to the Symbian system. So, the N900 have also a totaly new system and a new form of storing the SMS messages.

The last movement I lost every SMS in a customized folder. Because Nokia doesn't support them in their PC Suite. And at the moment I could'nt reach the SMS from my customized folders on the N95 at the PC. It is not supported by the Nokia PC Suite.

I guess the SMS messages could be the hardest problem again. :-(

I can transcribe Bookmarks and Notes in a pinch. But with SMS? Hmm... I think this would'nt work.

Does anyone know how the files are stored in the N900?
In a XML File or a small mySQL Database?

Could anyone upload a example File?

Some folks are trying to figure this out, and got some results, see this thread about Brainstorm: MMS (around post 45)
